Hospitals in Chiang Rai for English speakers

You're in Chiang Rai and you need a hospital. This page lists where to go, what it costs, and what to expect.

Chiang Rai is smaller than Chiang Mai and has fewer hospitals. The private hospitals are Overbrook Hospital in the city centre, Kasemrad Sriburin, and Bangkok Hospital Chiang Rai, about 11 km north. Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital is the public hospital with an ER. For serious emergencies, you may need a transfer to Chiang Mai, about three hours by road.

A basic visit at a private hospital costs modest fees by Western standards. The public hospital is cheaper, but waits are longer.

If you're staying in the city center, Overbrook is the closest private hospital. Bangkok Hospital Chiang Rai has a 24-hour emergency center. Chiang Rai doesn't have the same level of specialist care as Bangkok or Chiang Mai. For anything beyond basic treatment, plan on getting to Chiang Mai.

Bangkok Hospital Chiang Rai has interpreters and international coordinators. At the public hospital, English is limited. Having a translation app ready helps.

Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital has a pediatric ward. Overbrook Hospital also treats children, and Kasemrad Sriburin has a 24-hour children's health center. For something that is not urgent, the clinics around the city center also see children.
