Quick guide to pharmacy in Valencia, from people who've been there with kids.
Valencia has farmacias all over the city center, around the Ciutat Vella, along Carrer de Colon, and near the beach in Malvarrosa. The standard Spanish system applies.
Cost
Same affordable pricing as the rest of Spain. A bottle of Apiretal runs about 3 EUR. High-SPF sunscreen from the pharmacy costs 10 to 18 EUR but it's better than what the beach shops sell.
Practical tips
We were in Valencia during a heatwave with three kids and spent more time in pharmacies than we expected. Oral rehydration salts, after-sun cream, and insect repellent were our regular purchases. The pharmacies near the City of Arts and Sciences complex tend to have longer hours due to tourist traffic. Near the beach, farmacias along Passeig de Neptune are handy after a day in the sun. For the farmacia de guardia on duty, check any closed pharmacy's door or search farmacias de guardia Valencia online.
Language
English is hit or miss. The tourist area pharmacies around the cathedral and the beach are your best bet for English-speaking staff.
With kids
Spanish pharmacies stock Apiretal (paracetamol syrup) and Dalsy (ibuprofen) for children. Pharmacists will advise on weight-based dosing. Baby formula, diapers, and sunscreen are standard stock. For a wider selection of baby products, Mercadona supermarkets nearby are well-stocked.
Traveling with three little kids means you learn these things fast.
Hopefully you won't need any of this. But if you do, travel-er.app is built for exactly that moment.
