Need pharmacy in Gdansk? Here's what other travelers have figured out.
What to Know
Gdansk has apteki (pharmacies) throughout the city, easy to spot by the green cross or the word Apteka on the storefront. The old town (Glowne Miasto) has several, and there are more along the main roads in Wrzeszcz and Oliwa. Poland's pharmacy system is straightforward and prices are low compared to western Europe.
For after-hours needs, Gdansk has apteki dyzurne (duty pharmacies) open at night. The current one on duty is listed on the door of any closed pharmacy, or you can search apteka dyzurna Gdansk online. The Super-Pharm chain in Galeria Baltycka shopping center has longer hours and a wider selection than smaller neighborhood apteki. For children, Paracetamol Hasco in syrup form is the standard pediatric pain and fever medication. Ibuprofen for children (Nurofen or Ibuprofen Hasco) is also available. Prices are very low: a bottle of children's paracetamol costs about 8 to 12 PLN (around 2 EUR). If you're heading to the beach in Sopot or Gdynia, grab sunscreen and insect repellent at the apteka first.
English is increasingly common among younger pharmacists in Gdansk. In the old town tourist area, you'll usually find someone who speaks English. In outlying neighborhoods, it's less certain. The word for children's medicine is leki dla dzieci.
Polish pharmacies carry children's medications including Nurofen for Kids and paracetamol syrup. The pharmacist can advise on dosing. Baby formula, diapers, and basic baby care products are available at larger pharmacies and at Rossmann or Hebe drugstores nearby.
Hopefully this stays bookmarked and unused. But if you're in Gdansk and something comes up, travel-er.app is there.
